Today we are beginning our two-week journey of March of the Living.
At 9:15 this morning, 15 High School Seniors, along with Holocaust Survivor, Dr. Henry Fenichel, (known as Saba Henry), Diana Fenichel (Saba Henry's wife), Trip Leader, Matt Steinberg, and Trip Rabbi, Rabbi Shena Potter Jaffee, began our journey on March of the Living.
We'll take a 5 hour bus ride to Chicago O'hare airport, and then board a flight for a nearly 10 hour trip to Warsaw, Poland.
March of the Living is an international journey of remembrance and hope. We will spend 1 week in Poland, visiting the cities where the Jewish community thrived for generations and where the worst of Nazi atrocities were committed. On Thursday, April 19, Yom Ha Shoah, Holocaust Memorial Day, we will march with 12,000 teens from across the world from Birkenau to Auschwitz death camp. The March will culminate in the recitation of Mourner's Kaddish and the singing of HaTikvah at Auschwitz. At the end of the week, we'll travel with the same 12,000 teens to Israel for Israel's Yom HaZikaron (Memorial Day for Fallen Soldiers) and Yom Ha'Atzmaut (Israel's Independence Day.)
Our group is happy and excited. At this moment, we're just relaxing and getting ready for the trip of a lifetime.
